practice what you preach

Acting in integrity with my values is what got me started in entrepreneurship to begin with. While some may call me bull-headed, it’s really the result of being big-hearted. Before I worked for myself, I was written up for speaking out against unethical business practices and I publicly stood up to a boss who was pushing a racist narrative. When I started my business, I vowed to do good with my business because so much of what I had seen in the world was in direct opposition to my values and moral compass.

This page exists because I value transparency and believe in voting with your dollar (this is also why you’ll find all my prices clearly listed as well). When I work with coaches or contractors, I always want to make sure we’ll aligned values-wise before supporting their business. If you’re the same way, this page is for you.

my beliefs

CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE

I believe that as entrepreneurs, our businesses are an invitation to create positive change in the world, exactly as we are today. We don’t have to wait until we have more time, money, knowledge, confidence or credentials to take action today (even if that action is just creating plans for future actions when we have more resources).

SUCCESS + JOY ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE

I believe that success and joy shouldn’t be mutually exclusive. As someone who STILL bumps their head up against the external expectations of capitalism at the expense of personal joy from time to time, I know how hard this work is—a constantly learning and relearning. AND we all deserve a life and biz that makes space for both simultaneously (& it starts with us releasing internalized hustle culture).

LIFELONG LEARNING

I believe in lifelong learning. From improving our craft to being better accomplices for change, we should always be learning, adapting, apologizing where necessary, and learning again and again until the day we go cold. Growth doesn’t happen in silos, and requires continued community engagement, experimentation, and vulnerability.

core pillars of my work

I firmly believe that in order for you to have a truly rewarding experience with a designer, you need to make sure you’re a good fit. Here are some of my values and beliefs that might help make it clearer if we’ll work together. If these don’t jive with you, we might not be a good match and that’s okay too!

  1. Flexibility & Grace. Hustle culture is a hoax. Instead of peddling silver bullet solutions (spoiler: there are none), we create frameworks and space for movement and play. We understand that finding what feels uniquely aligned to us as individuals is what leads to sustainable solutions.

  2. Bright Eyes & Big Whys. We aren’t afraid to tackle our biggest dreams head-on. We chase what lights our asses up and strive to leave a positive impact on the world and others in the process.

  3. The Answers Are Within. There are no one-size-fits all solutions in entrepreneurship, or life. We believe every individual is unique and wildly competent - who already has everything they need to succeed. We love being collaborators in our community, and uncovering those answers together. You are the expert on your business, brand and lived experience.

MAKE THE FIne print big

Black Lives Matter, everyone deserves equal rights and the freedom to love under the law, trans rights are human rights, no human is illegal on stolen ground, people with wombs deserve access to abortion, and science is real (aka: COVID is real & the climate crisis is real). I support a Free Palestine and denounce anti-semitism. I am committed to creating safer spaces (thank you Tristan Katz for this language) and utilizing my privileges and unearned advantages to speak up against harm and oppressive systems. I am also committed to continuously unlearning my inherent bias as a white, able-bodied, straight-sized person who is married and owns property on stolen land (of the Cheyenne, Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Arapaho, and Ute people) and grew up in a predominantly white, middle/upper class suburban area. When I inevitably cause harm to those most impacted by the white supremacist patriarchy, I make apologies and recommitments without centering myself.

If you do not agree with these values statements, and are unwilling to explore and unlearn ways in which you uphold oppressive systems, please do not work with me. The safety of the oppressed is more important than your opinion of me.

Positive Impact

There are countless ways to create a positive impact with your business for the communities and causes you care about most deeply. This page will be updated periodically to reflect the organizations I am directly supporting as a result of this business. At present, I am donating 1% of my gross revenue to charitable organizations aligned with our brand values. I hope to continue to increase this percentage as my business grows, and I want to serve as an example that positive impact can happen at all levels. If you are current or past client, thank you for making these donations a reality.

Still unsure if we're a good match? We’d love to work with you if any of the following qualities describe you:

  • You believe in equality and equity for all people. This means Black Lives Matter, Stop Asian Hate, LGTBQIA+ rights, feminism, and other activism avenues 📣 (And when harm is unintentionally caused, we will make it right and work through that together because fear of causing harm is not an excuse to stop showing up and learning)

  • You’re candid and authentic, and you might even swear here and there ⁉️

  • You love to celebrate 🎉

  • You believe having fun and working hard are not mutually exclusive activities ⚡️

  • You’ve experienced hardships and/or failure, but it hasn’t stopped you from moving forward 🔥

  • You love your community and giving back 💖

  • You care about the environment and being sustainable, both personally and professionally 🌎

  • You’re at a point where you want to invest in your business 🌱

Racist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, ableist, anti-semitic, misogynistic, or any other language that is harmful to historically disenfranchised communities will not be tolerated.

Let's discuss your working style. We'll be great partners-in-collaboration if:

  • You're totally comfortable learning/using an online project management tool (we use Clickup for all branding & packaging projects).

  • You completely trust my expertise as a brand strategist and designer to understand what works best for your audience and purpose. You won't let personal bias affect this.

  • You're not expecting a super long drawn-out process that includes many rounds of revisions and a whole lot of design options. Our process looks like this: You’ll access to the Brand Discovery Workbook which you’ll complete (takes about 4-5 hours of dedication), followed by our strategy to approaching your unique project, then you’ll get 1–2 initial designs and then up to 2 rounds of refinement. So if this efficient order sounds good to you, this will work out wonderfully!

  • You are organized and deliver concise feedback (I’ll provide some guiding prompts to help if you feel stuck!). You're good at making decisions and don't need to involve a ton of people. You like writing it out and following up with phone calls for clarification, if needed.

  • You're excited to embark on this fun and collaborative process and are incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about what, why, and how you do what you do.

Sound good? Let's get started!
