Designing content for your business? Keep these 3 tips in mind to make sure that the fonts you’re using mistakes many entrepreneurs make.

Using a variety of fonts can be a great way to communicate a variety of emotions, draw attention to new offers and increase legibility (if you're doing it right!). There are so many fun new typefaces coming out DAILY and I know it's tempting to try them all.

However you need to remember that typography's main roles on social and elsewhere are:

👀 Communicate information clearly (must be legible)

😍 Express a certain emotion or tone

✨ Reinforce branding and messaging

If you’re able to incorporate trendy typography choices while retaining those 3 staples, you’ll be in good shape! Here are some tips to help you get there!

3 Tips for Choosing the Perfect Fonts

01. Save trendy type for seasonal & short-term offerings, promotions & products exclusively

Seasonal or limited-time offerings, promotions or products are a great use for those very trendy typefaces! They allow you to capitalize on the flavor of the dayand get more eyes on your offering. Since they have a limited shelf-life, you can assure that you won’t be stuck with dated graphics when trends change again.

02. Always opt for timeless typefaces when it comes to your branding

When done correctly, you shouldn’t need to revisit your brand for a minimum of 7-10 years. If you follow the design trends of today, you risk your brand looking outdated in just 1-2 years. Save yourself a lot of time, money and potential clients by opting for something more evergreen.

03. When you buy that trendy font, ensure it’s versatile enough for it’s intended use

A lot of the trendy and affordable typefaces are priced as such for good reason. When shopping for typefaces of any kind, check to see if they have upper and lowercase letters (yes, seriously), numbers, special characters, and different weights. Unless you’re only using it for small call-outs, you’lllikely need a more robust type system.
