Ping Pong, Mexican Food, & Meteor Showers

La Perla, Milwaukee

This was the first weekend in quite some time where I didn’t have pre-established plans or pressing deadlines, and it was absolutely wonderful. My friends and I ended up not going out on the boat, but instead took a spontaneous trip to SPiN Milwaukee and followed it up with dinner at La Perla. Between the ping pong, giant jenga, and delicious Mexican food, we had an amazing afternoon.

Later in the evening, we gathered up our blankets and bug spray and headed out to the park to watch the meteor shower. With our phones off and our eyes fixated on the sky, we marveled over the vastness of space and the beauty of the stars. It definitely was a good way to “reset” before the start of a new week.

I hope all of you had an equally excellent weekend!

LISTEN.
This week has been a crazy blur full of wrapping up freelance projects, starting new ones, and just being busy overall. Whenever I have a lot to get done, I look to music (and coffee) to keep my energy levels up. That being said, I spent quite a bit of time listening to Disclosure’s album Settle this week. If you’re looking for some upbeat electronica to keep you hustling, look no further!

LOVE.
This week I came across a really great video/song called Nothing to Prove by Geek Girls and the Doubleclicks which explains what it’s like to be a female geek who is constantly put down for her gender. The video itself features photos of women holding signs explaining the troubles of being a geek girl. As someone who was once banned from a Half Life 2 server for being a “hacking 12-year old boy” (sorry, I’m not sorry for having a feminine voice and being awesome at the game), I could definitely relate. I love this video, the message, and the cameos of awesome people like Adam Savage and Amy Berg. Love this!

LAUGH.
This week I could not stop laughing at these Bass Dog photos. I don’t know how people come up with these concepts, but I’m glad they do because they’re truly the lifeblood of the internet. If you need a pick-me-up, I would highly recommend visiting their tumblr and scrolling through all of those Bass Dogs. There are some real gems in there!

LIVE.
In addition to wrapping up some freelance work (more on that at a later date) and starting work with some fun new clients this weekend, I’m really looking forward to getting outside to enjoy this beautiful weather with my friends. We may take the boat out on Lake Michigan, and if we end up changing plans, I’m still looking forward to whatever adventures come our way!

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Recap

Madison Farmers Market Moodboard

As I mentioned in my previous post, I spent the weekend with my dear friend Emily. After a night of catching up over homemade pizzas, we woke up early on Saturday morning for a day in Madison to check out their Farmers’ Market. The sun was shining, the weather was superb, and purchases were bountiful! As we scoped out all of the amazing booths, we snacked on some delicious hot and spicy cheesy bread from Stella’s Bakery (be sure to check out their website while you’re at it - it’s beautifully designed!).

The purchase I was most excited about however, is the Farmers’ Market print shown above from ZIP-DANG. Emily, being the sweetheart she is, bought me the local beer ZIP-DANG print as a belated birthday present, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic. These new prints will find a happy new home…in my home? Yeah. Exactly.

After much shopping and laughter, we parted ways as I drove to Milwaukee to spend the night with another friend I haven’t seen in eons. We stayed up until the wee hours of the morning telling stories, laughing until we cried, and playing the Battlestar Galactica board game and Phase 10.

With the excitement of Friday and Saturday, I had a leisurely Sunday consisting of some much needed relaxation and a nice long bike ride.
